The energetic city of Meerut is getting closer
to fulfilling its Smart City goals. Meerut has been selected for
Round-3 under the Smart Cities Mission of the Central Government.
As the city wishes to reflect the needs and aspirations of the citizens
in its Smart City Proposal, the city seeks the opinions and suggestions
of its citizens.
Therefore, we ask for the active participation & suggestions of the
citizens of Meerut or anyone associated with the city in some or the other way.
Meerut is one of the most
important town in the Northern part of India. The town,
situated in Western Uttar Pradesh has got a long history
behind it. The city was the part of Hastinapur Empire of
Kaurvas that ruled the Vedic India and was the
protagonists of Hindu Epic of Mahabharata.Meerut
is the fastest developing city of Uttar Pradesh after
Noida and Ghaziabad. Meerut ranks 4th in terms of
population in Uttar Pradesh. It is an ancient city
located 56 km (35 mi) north-east of New Delhi. Meerut
also has one of the biggest army garrisons / cantonments
in this part of the country. It is famous for its
scissors, sports goods and Gazak. Meerut is also the
sports capital of India and with the availability of
3500 hectares of industrial land and proximity of Delhi
it is developing as the industrial hub.
Meerut is a metropolitan city,
and it is the biggest city in NCR after Delhi. The
nearest airport is the Indira Gandhi International
airport which is about 80 km away. By road, Meerut is
well-connected to Delhi, NOIDA, Hapur, Faridabad,
Modinagar, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Haridwar, etc. A large
number of people commute to Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida,
Ghaziabad and Gurgaon every day for work. Two national
highways (NH-58, NH-119) pass through Meerut. An
expressway from Delhi to Meerut is under development.
There are 2 main Bus Terminals Bhainsali Bus Terminal
and Shorab Gate Bus Terminal from where Uttar Pradesh
State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) Buses serve
cities all over the state. Meerut has two Railway
Stations Meerut City and Meerut Cantt. The city is well
connected to Delhi Ghaziabad, Agra, Dehradun and others.
Hotel Cab, Private Taxi, City Buses, Auto Rickshaw and
Rickshaw are the convenient option to commute within the
city. The Metro Rail Project has been passed and it will
be running very soon in the city of Meerut. Many new
projects have already been passed like INNER RING ROAD,
OUTER RING ROAD and construction of new flyovers. An
airport (BHIM RAO AMBEDKAR DOMESTIC AIRPORT) is also
under construction and is expected to be completed by
